Valentine’s Day is meant to be a sweet and enjoyable holiday, but for a single girl like myself, it can often cause the opposite effect. Normal days are bad enough at school,  coming across passionately embracing couples around every corner who pay absolutely no heed to my presence,  but on February 14th, it gets 100 times worse.

Contrary to what guys seem to believe, the annoyed attitude adopted by many single girls on this day is not us being bitter. At this point, I’ve accepted the fact that I don’t have a significant other and probably won’t anytime soon, so being bitter isn’t the issue.  The problem is the increased amount of…to put it officially, public displays of affection.

Single girls would be totally fine with Valentine’s Day if couples kept their lovey-dovey antics to themselves. Instead, especially in our school environment, we end up being forced to witness couples all over each other all the time. It gets old after a while, being constantly bombarded with shows of affection.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with being affectionate with your partner. That’s a good thing, it shows that you care. Only problem is, people like me really don’t care. Especially if that affection is flaunted around every corner in every hallway.

Valentine’s Day isn’t all bad. It’s a great way to show your partner how much they mean to you. However, if you want to make Valentine’s Day enjoyable for everyone and not just couples, please keep it PG.
