Staff 2019-2020

Senior Maddison Shawkey is the the editor-in-chief of the Royal News Newspaper and also a third year writer. Shawkey enjoys theater, choir, and writing. After high school, she plans on going to a four year university for music and education.

Senior Carter Marks is the online editor-in-chief and a third year editor. He also plays on the varsity volleyball and tennis team. Marks plans to go to a four year university to pursue either journalism or political science.

Senior Masako Kaneko is the sports editor and a third year writer. Kaneko is on the tennis team and is involved with the Student Government Association. After high school, Kaneko plans on being a business major in college.

Senior Harmony Thomas is a third year writer and editor of the Arts and Entertainment section. Thomas in on the dance team and is involved in 4-H, SADD, and the Spanish Club. Following high school, Thomas wants to go to college in Texas.

Senior Sarah Schrum is the business editor and a third year writer. She enjoys archery and baking. Schrum plans to attend a two year college such as Richard Bland and then transfer to a four year school. She plans on going for a business degree.

Senior Allison McCauley-Cook is a second year double truck editor. In her free time, she enjoys reading. After high school, she plans on going to college.

Senior Deana Nichols is a second year writer and a sports editor. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Nichols wants to go to college when she and focus on sports journalism.

Junior Kaylaa’ White is a second year Arts & Entertainment editor. She enjoys reading, writing, zodiology, and practicing tarot. She’s a soon to be business owner, who plans on getting a double major in college located in a big city.

Junior Nic Brown is a second year writer and editor of reviews. Brown is on the varsity football team and enjoys reselling shoes and clothes. He plans to obtain a psychology degree and then go to another college to get his JDD.

Junior Katie Zevgolis is a second year writer and editor of the Arts and Entertainment section. She enjoys dancing and reading in her spare time. Zevgolis plans on joining the Disney College Program after she graduates high school.

Senior Damian Perkinson is a first year writer. He spends his free time writing, playing music, and spending time with his friends. Perkinson plans to go to college to get his master’s and become a teacher.

Senior Heidi Crane is a first year writer. Her hobbies include singing, painting, drawing, writing, sewing, and making new friends from around the world by pen palling. Crane plans to go to a four year university for journalism or anything art related.

Junior Jewel Harry is a first year writer. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Harry plans to go to college to study and practice film work.

Freshman Maclay Cerny is a first year writer. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing with her little sisters, and hanging out with her friends. After graduating, Cerny plans on attending an ivy league school.

Sophomore Emily Hannuksela is a first year writer. If she is not reading, she enjoys playing volleyball. After high school, Hannuksela plans to go to VCU to become a pharmacist.

Sophomore Skye Watkins in a first year writer. She enjoys playing the guitar, singing, and she loves to draw. After high school, Watkins plans on being a cosmetologist.

Chris Newton is a first year writer. He loves skateboarding and watching Netflix. After high school, he plans to go to a community college and then transfer to Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.
