With just 3:26 left in the fourth quarter Prince George (2-2) had the ball close to midfield and was down only two points to Conference 12 foe Matoaca (2-2). The Royals needed just a few more plays to be in striking distance. Quarterback Edward Walker’s pass unfortunately missed his target, and the Warriors’ interception would prove to be the final play Matoaca would need to defeat the Royals 22-20.
Walker passed for 200 yards on the night with two touchdowns. Keith Brown caught five of Walker’s passes for 162 yards. The Royals leading rusher was Malaki Gurley who amassed 126 yards on the ground.
The Warriors had 379 yards on offense and three touchdowns. The difference in the game came down to the two 2-point conversions completed by Matoaca’s Jeremiah Carter.
The Royals play their first game on the road next Friday against Thomas Dale.
