At the April school board meeting last night, government teacher Louise Thornton was named the 2016 Prince George County Teacher of the Year. She will represent the county in the next round of the Teacher of the Year competition for Region 8 of Virginia.
Thornton received the news earlier this month at the high school in a ceremony that she was named PGHS Teacher of the Year. In addition, Thornton was surprised to find out that she had also received a house resolution from the Virginia General Assembly for her 50 years of service to Prince George County Schools.

Even though Thornton has taught for 50 years, she has decided not to retire.
“Being around young people, keeps you young,” Thornton said.
