Sitting at the computer taking a deep breath, sophomore Anibal Cristobal-Aguilar, anticipates the translations he needs. His fingers dance across the keyboard as he endlessly searches for words he desires.

This seventeen year old faces many challenges. Not only is he having a hard time translating Spanish to English, but he also faces turning the age of eighteen without his family nearby. He explains that he cannot wait to join the military for a better life then he did back home, in Guatemala.

“I believe I want to go to college because I want to go into the military,” Cristobal- Aguilar said, “I do not know which branch, but probably the Army.”

Not only does Cristobal-Aguilar await the military services, but he also believes that America is better living than his native country.

In Guatemala, many things are not as easily found as your everyday things here in America.

As a traditional way to make friends in America, he plays basketball every other day as a stress reliever and excise mechanism with them.

“I like to play basketball because it helps you burn the fat that you eat; you jump a lot and run everywhere,” Cristobal-Aguilar said. “I don’t think I will play on the basketball team, but possibly on the soccer team.”

Depending on the native language of the speaker, English can be one of the most difficult languages to learn.

“I imagine that I am like every other kid in Prince George, but my only problem is speaking English,” Cristobal-Aguilar said. “I am not an American yet, but I believe I am.”

Translated into Español 

 Sentado frente a la computadora toma una respiración profunda, el estudiante de Segundo año.  Anibal Cristobal-Aguilar, anticipa las traducciones que necesita. Sus dedos hacen una danza a través del teclado cuando busca palabras que él desea.

Este chico de diecisiete años enfrenta muchos desafíos, no sólo está teniendo un momento difícil traducir del español al inglés, se enfrenta también a convertir la edad de dieciocho años sin su familia cerca. El explica que él no puede esperar a alistarse en la militaria para tener una vida major de la vida en Guatemala.

“Creo que quiero ir a la Universidad porque quiero entrar en el ejército. No sé qué rama, pero probablemente el Army”. Cristobal Aguilar dijo.  No sólamente Cristobal Aguilar aguardan los servicios militares, pero también cree que los Estados Unidos es una vida mejor a traves a su país natal.

En Guatemala, muchas cosas no se encuentran fácilmente como las cosas cotidianas aquí en América. Como una forma tradicional de hacer amigos en América, juega baloncesto unos días para aliviar el estrés y el mecanismo de impuestos especiales con ellos.

“Me gusta jugar baloncesto porque te ayuda a quemar la grasa que usted come, usted salta mucho y corre por todas partes, Cristobal-Aguilar dijo.  “No creo que jugaré en el equipo de baloncesto, pero posiblemente en el equipo de fútbol.”

Dependiendo en el idioma de la persona, ingles puede ser el idioma mas deficil para aprender.

“Me imagino que yo soy como cualquier otro niño en Prince George, pero mi único problema es que no hablo Inglés,”  Cristobal-Aguilar dijo.  “Yo no soy un americano, pero creo que soy.”
