Writer Kierra Lanier

Writer Kierra Lanier
By Will Bonnell
Sophmore Kierra Lanier sits, as she daubs the canvas with all kinds of brilliant colors.  She sees the rigid image in her mind. As she carefully maneuvers her brush, a picture begins to form of a bright, beautiful city filled with lights and culture

Lanier is as close as ever to achieving her dreams.  She has a passion that will not be let go of easily.  She loves what she does, and will never stop.

Ever since she was young, she has dreamed of going to Japan.  She is intrigued by the culture that Japan has to offer to her.
“I like that Japan has so many traditions, and so many festivals and things to do,” Lanier said.
The culture of Japan has inspired her to be an artist.  She loves to draw anime, a Japanese style of art found in many comics, movies, and television series.  Her art has fueled her wishes to go to Japan more than ever.
Lanier now strives for an art career.  Unfortunately, she doubts it will be drawing anime.
“Colleges don’t like to see anime in your portfolio,” Lanier says.  “I want to get away from anime.”
Lanier says she is hoping to become an illustrator or even a game design artist.  She wants to design fighting games or role-playing games.  This way she is still connected to the Japanese culture she loves.
