On Saturday, February 15th, the Democratic Party of Virginia hosted its annual Blue Commonwealth Gala as a ”premier gathering of elected officials candidates, community activists, and Democratic Party Leaders.”
Speakers included Senator Mark Warner, Congresswoman Elaine Luria, Governor Ralph Northam, and presidential candidate Mayor Mike Bloomberg.
Bloomberg began his speech by commending Virginian democrats on the accomplishments they’ve made including protecting reproductive rights, gun reform, and raising minimum wage.
But, it wouldn’t be a democratic speech without taking shots at Donald Trump.
“I am running to defeat Donald Trump, I am running to restore honor to our government,” Bloomberg said.
He also had a lot to say about our current president’s social media engagement.
“I believe we need less talk, less partisanship, less division, and less tweeting,” Bloomberg said.
Despite being wealthy and from New York, Bloomberg said he is nothing like Trump.
“I’m the un-Trump, he breaks promises, I keep them, he divides people, I unite them, he looks out for people who inherited their wealth like him, well I’m self-made.”
Following New Hampshire’s primary with Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg taking first and second place, other candidates, including Bloomberg, who wasn’t even in the top eight, are continuing full steam ahead to the Nevada caucus on February 22nd, 2020.
