News+Briefs+1%2F22-1%2F26%3A+No+Name+Calling+Week+Recognized

After missing seven days due to snow, the weather has turned mild and appears to provide the students with one full week of school in January. With the time out, the GSA moved No Name Calling Week events to this week. In addition clubs like DECA and sports like baseball & softball delayed activities as well. Here is your rundown for Jan. 22nd through Jan. 26th.

This is No Name Calling Week. Did you know that LGBTQ students in the United States who experienced anti-LGBTQ harassment or discrimination at school were 3 times as likely to have missed school in the past month because they felt unsafe or uncomfortable. LGBT bullying statistics show they suffer from more cyber bullying. According to GLSEN and BullyingStatistics.org Please sign the pledge to celebrate kindness and end bullying during all lunches. The GSA will have a table set up in the commons to provide information and ways you can take a stand against bullying. If you are interested in joining the Gay Straight Alliance, please see Ms. Beasley in room B8.

The SADD and Cultural Awareness Clubs are now conducting sign-ups for the Annual Black History Program. Please stop by B14 to sign up, no later than 3:00pm. Students do not have to be members to participate.

Fashion Show Dance tryouts are rescheduled for Wednesday 1/24 and Thursday 1/25 this week. Students who would like to model in the fashion show need to pick up packet in room B1 and please turn it in by Friday. Please see Mrs. Beales in Room B1 if there are any questions.

Student Ambassadors will have a meeting this Friday, January 26, after school in room D18, from 2:30-3:00. Students should plan on attending to help plan the first new student orientation.

Key Club members planning on going to DCON, the application and $50 deposit are due to Mrs. Cashing by this Friday January 26th. Space is limited, and it is first-come-first-served. Applications can be found outside of D-12 and in the commons on the bulletin board.

The following scholarships are now available in guidance: Lexus of Richmond Scholarship Program and National Beta Scholarship Program due 1/25, VA, MD, Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship due 1/31, Savannah College of Art and Design due 2/01, Wings Over America Scholarship due 2/1, DE Assoc. of Electric Coop.
