Senior Michael Myrick and Brendal Vargo were announced as the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen on Friday, Oct. 23rd at the halftime of the football game.
The students nominated as many as forty seniors to be narrowed down to five boys and five girls on the court. Out of those five, one was selected to represent their school.
“It was exciting to be on the court with four of my friends,” Vargo said. “Walking through the saber tunnel and hearing all of the student accomplishments and the people cheering was very exciting too.”
The crowning was a special moment for two friends as well.
“Brendal Vargo has been my best friend since the day she was born. We are practically sisters. That moment when we both realized she was the 2015 Homecoming Queen is one I’ll never forget. I’m not sure who was more excited, me or her,” graduate Casey Abernethy said. “As soon as she stepped up, I jumped up and hugged her. Then, of course she had to bend down so I could reach to put the crown on. I don’t think the class of 2016 could have chosen anyone else to better represent their class on this special weekend.”
Members of last year’s court returned to help anoint the new royalty. Graduates Brenton Vaughan and Abernethy attended the ceremony and represented the Class of 2015.
“Coming back for Homecoming was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It was so nice to catch up with seniors at the high school and fellow classmates who came back for the weekend. Seeing all the different directions we have gone is still bittersweet, but it so neat to see how everyone is thriving in their new environments. I also loved seeing my teachers, who not only had an impact on my life in high school but still do today,” Abernethy said.
The homecoming court for 2015 included: Caitlin Leary, Brooklyn Morning, Madison Stillings, Peyton Mitchell, Hunter Bartlett, Kyle Davis, Wesley Gilbert, and Kalen Banks.
