Tens seconds left on the clock as junior Kristen Schwalm ran for the winning goal. She had no intentions on actually scoring because of the position she played, but she gave it her all anyway. Aggressively, Schwalm kicked the muddy soccer ball into the goal winning her last travel game.
“ I was so proud of myself, I did not know I had it in me,” Schwalm said.
Schwalm has been playing soccer since she was six years old. When she was younger she would often practice with her brother. He enjoyed the sport as much as she did.
“Soccer is not just a sport to Kristen, it is her life,” her mother said.
Her family is very supportive of her and attended every game she had. After a big game , they would take her to her favorite restaurant ,Red Lobsters. She hopes to continue playing soccer in college as well. Although it is her lifetime dream to pursue a career in soccer, she is also interested in being a Dental assistant.
“It would be great to turn my favorite hobby into a career,” Schwalm said.
