With all the awards announced but one, the overall award, contestants anxiously stand with eyes closed, fingers crossed, and hearts racing. Hearing the name called, sighs are exhaled, when suddenly one contestant realizes that was their name. They had just won the 2012 4-H Talent Show.
On Fri., Mar. 16, the Talent Show was held in the auditorium. The show was scheduled to be Fri., Feb. 24, but was rescheduled due to tornado warnings.
There were more than 22 acts in which contestants performed a variety of talents. These included dance, singing, rap, and instrumental. The talent show was hosted by seniors Dax Ellison and Andrew Pettaway who entertained between each performance.
To make the judging process easier and broaden the opportunity for a win, awards were given for each type of act as well as an overall winner. The following people and groups won for their category: senior Doug Davis for rap, Full Effect who performed a dance routine, senior Zivan Holloway for the singing category, and Strong Bow, a band for the instrumental category. Holloway won the overall award as well.
Holloway was not expecting the win, but was elated when he received it.
“I was excited,” Holloway said. “I didn’t expect to win overall and didn’t even think I would win.”
With the goal of the show being the chance for students to perform in front of their peers and showcase their talents, the talent show was successful.
For Holloway, winning was nice, but the experience was even better.
“The best part was getting to see everyone perform and being around friends,” Holloway said.
Holloway hopes to continue to sing throughout his life and has already involved himself in singing activities. He sings with the school choir as well as his church group. He has even made his own set of cds.
