News Briefs 11/13-11/17: Powderpuff Match Kicks Off Thursday

The beginning of the second nine weeks also means that there is a lot going on this week. In addition next week is the fall break with school only meeting on Monday and Tuesday. The big event this week along with the start of winter sports is the annual powderpuff game on Thursday.

PowderPuff will take place on November 16th. Girls from the senior class will face off against junior class girls in a match of flag football. The game will be on the football field at 3:30. Admission is 3 canned goods or $3.00. All cans and money will be donated to the Prince George Food Bank. Additionally, junior and senior boys that are interested in dancing/cheering should stop by A32 or A24 to sign up.

The 3 point challenge for PowderPuff returns this year. Students should stop by A32 or A24 to drop off canned goods for the juniors or seniors. The class with the most cans will start the game with a 3 point advantage. All cans will be donated to the Prince George Food Bank. Stop by to support your class and this wonderful cause.

In other club activities, the SADD club will be meeting during activity block for members that are going, or are interested in going, on the Howard University / DC field trip. All Cultural awareness members are invited to attend the activity block meeting tomorrow.

The Gay Straight Alliance will be meeting Thursday at 2:45 in room B-8.  Do not forget that Lock-In Permission forms are due Monday. Permission forms for Transgender Day of Remembrance are due by Friday. Please drop off any lock-in supplies to B-8 before or after school.

The Forensics team will meet at 2:45 on Monday in room A29. Bring your competition piece with you. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Andersen.

Any DECA member interested in attending the Wizards Field Trip may sign up now. A $25 deposit is required to hold a spot.

If you like trivia, and competing in a “battle of the brains” type competition, then the Academic Team might be for you. There is an information meeting in A1 on Wednesday, November 15th after school.  Come out an join one of the top teams at PG.

Stop by the library and see the latest in our mystery/suspense collection. You can find the display next to Mr. Chandler’s office. We also have have several new fiction and nonfiction titles available for checkout.

Congratulations to the PGHS SADD Club for again not only achieving our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF fundraiser goal but surpassing the NEW goal of $350! We have collected over $450. A special thanks to  Courtney West for the most funds collected.

The PGHS SADD Club has been entered to win $1,000 for our participation in the National Red Ribbon Drug Free Campaign. The school that receives the most votes for Region 3 wins. Please help us to win the $1,000, which will go toward our local scholarship program. Richard Bland College will be conducting an on-site admissions day on Thursday November 16th. Any senior who plans to attend Richard Bland and would like to participate in this on-site admissions opportunity should sign up in the counseling office.

And final attention seniors – the yearbook staff will be conducting a one-day only, ½ price sale on senior ads on Wednesday. November 15th. That’s right – your $400 full page ad is only $200 on this day. Your $100 1/8 page ad is only $50 on this day. Staff members will be here all day in A2 and after school until 6 PM to help you design your ad for the yearbook.
