Pro/Con: Should Abortion Be Made Legal?

CON: Abortion is murder and should be banned everywhere.

by: Reeve Ashcraft

reeveIn America during any given year, less than one percent of all abortions performed are done to save the mother’s life. The rest should be considered murder.

Abortion is defined as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Though in most cases, the women and couples that go to get the procedure done try to rationalize the situation to the best of their abilities, but in the end are actually taking the gift of life away from an innocent being.

The law in many states says that life does not begin until the baby breathes its first breath, but does it really? Even at the point of when the baby is first conceived, most parents will say that from the beginning they start to grow feelings of attachment towards the fetus and though life has not begun, it is a very living creature.

Unless the mother’s life is in danger, or in cases of rape or incest (and very detailed cases at that), aborting the life of a baby is murder. I agree that the mother does have certain rights, but does that baby not have the right to life? That single baby could find the cure for cancer or solve the energy crisis, or just live the life that it has the right to live.

On the other hand, I agree that with teenage pregnancy and middle-aged pregnancy, having the baby could cause trouble in being able to provide for it or just having time for it. With that being said though, why did you not think about that before you made the choice to partake in actions that lead to pregnancy, which leads to a baby?

If a baby does not fit into your life or you can’t afford it, then understand that before you jump into such actions. Realize that just because you made a mistake doesn’t mean that the innocent life of a baby should be taken.
