The sound of the crowd roaring with triumph after a game-winning goal is what both soccer squads are hoping to hear when their seasons begin.  Both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams had winning records in the 2013 season, and look to repeat that trend in the 2014 season.

“Last season was good, but [our whole team] always strives to get better every day,” senior Kameron Smith said. “As far as this year, I think [our team] will do really good, [seeing as] we only have one starting spot open and a few other reserve spots.”

The girls team will have the challenge of coming back from the loss of eight seniors from last season, compared to the boys losing just four.

“We lost great players last year, and that will affect us tremendously, but we can rebuild the bond and be as strong as or stronger than we were last season,” sophomore Amanda Belcher said.

The girls team will also try and repeat a one-lose regular season and the central district regular season title.

“[Our whole team] works hard for what we do, and it really shows on the field,” junior Chaelin Magruder said. “[This season is] going to be a blast, and we are going to kill it.”

The boy’s team did not lose as many seniors as the girls, but they did lose four, and they were all key players that contributed a great deal to the team last season, mainly on the offensive end of the field.

“Losing those key guys will be tough, but we will have people ready to step in and replace them,”  Smith said. “We have a good number of returnees to fill the void.”

Magruder is looking forward to the new strategies of the upcoming season.

“This season is going to be a learning experience because we are going to try new things on the field and have many new players on the team,” Magruder said.
