“Oz: The Great and Powerful” is far from what you would expect when you see “Oz” in the title. In this alternate version of the movie, James Franco plays the iconic Dorothy character, Oscar, also known as Oz.

At the beginning of his journey, Oscar encounters Theodora, the “good” witch who believes he has fulfilled the prophecy of a wizard with the same name of the land coming to save Oz and its people from the wicked witch. Theodora takes Oscar back to her sister, another “good” witch, Evanora, in the Emerald City, who tells him he must kill the “evil” witch, Glenda.

The key part of Oscar’s success is finding out which witch is which. After he finds this out he figures out how to save Oz and essentially that anything is possible, especially in Oz.
“Oz The Great and Powerful” was very beautiful and bright visually, though there were moments in the movie where you could tell things were fake. It was so bright and bubbly and the witches flowed so elegantly when they walked, you could tell there were visual effects put into the movie. However, even though you know these things are fake it doesn’t matter because they were so intriguing.

All in all, this movie was amazing and I would recommend it to everyone. This movie is so different from the original “Wizard of Oz” with all its plot twists, but also very similar in the journey to defeat the wicked witch. It honestly makes you feel like a kid again watching the iconic “Oz” type characters.
